Request a site visit Call 019-221 7190A cooling tower is an open evaporative system, so it collects everything the air and the make-up water bring into it: silt and sludge in the basin, scale on the fill pack and internal surfaces, biofilm on wetted surfaces, and leaves and debris in the strainers. As that builds up, heat rejection falls, the approach temperature climbs, the chillers work harder for the same cooling, and energy cost rises before anything actually breaks. Cleaning is the physical removal of all of that.

What cooling tower cleaning covers
Basin cleaning and sludge removal
The tower is drained and isolated, then silt, sludge and debris are removed from the basin, and the basin surfaces are washed down. Sludge in the basin is where biological growth concentrates and where corrosion starts, so this is the single most useful thing done on a routine cycle.
Fill-pack cleaning or replacement
Fill pack is where the heat transfer actually happens, and scaled or bridged flutes destroy tower performance faster than anything else. Sound fill pack is cleaned in place or removed, cleaned and refitted. Collapsed, brittle or heavily scaled pack is quoted for replacement — we show you the condition before you decide.
Descaling of wetted surfaces
Mineral scale from make-up water builds on the fill, the distribution system and the internal casing. Descaling restores the surface area that heat transfer depends on. Scale that keeps coming back quickly is a water-chemistry problem, not a cleaning problem, and we will say so.
Strainers, nozzles and distribution
Blocked strainers and clogged spray nozzles cause uneven water distribution across the fill, which quietly wastes a large part of the tower's capacity. These are cleared and the spray pattern checked before the tower is put back into service.
Shutdown planning and isolation
Nobody works inside a tower that has not been drained, isolated and locked off. We agree the shutdown window with you in advance, work around production or building operating hours where we can, and sequence the job so the tower is back in service when you need it.
Inspection and written report
You get a record of what was found and what was done: condition of the basin, fill pack and distribution, scale and fouling level, anything mechanical worth watching, and what we recommend next. It goes into your facility records and gives you a baseline to compare against at the next clean.
Signs your tower is due for cleaning
- Approach temperature drifting up. The gap between leaving-water temperature and wet-bulb widening over weeks is the clearest performance signal you have.
- Chillers running harder or longer for the same load, or condenser pressure creeping up.
- Visible silt or sludge in the basin, or water that looks cloudy and smells.
- Scale visible on the fill pack, or flutes bridged so water no longer spreads evenly.
- Uneven spray pattern across the fill, or dry patches where water is not reaching.
- Debris in the strainers needing frequent clearing, or a basin that keeps losing water.
How a cleaning job runs
- Free site inspection. We look at the tower, the basin, the fill pack and the access, and establish what condition it is actually in.
- Written quotation and scope. You get the scope and the price before anything is agreed, including what would change it if the fill pack turns out to need replacing.
- Shutdown window agreed. Date, duration, isolation points and site access requirements confirmed in writing.
- Drain, isolate and lock off. No one works inside a live tower.
- Clean. Basin and sludge, fill pack, distribution system, strainers and nozzles, internal surfaces.
- Refill, recommission and check. Water distribution and spray pattern verified, tower returned to service and observed running.
- Report handed over. Condition found, work done, recommendations and suggested next interval.
What it costs
Cooling tower cleaning is quoted on site after inspection, and the site visit and quotation are free. We do not publish a fixed price for tower work, because the scope genuinely is not knowable until the tower is opened. What moves the number:
- Tower size and type — open or closed circuit, and the physical scale of the unit.
- Sludge and scale volume — how much has to be removed and disposed of.
- Fill pack — whether it can be cleaned or has to be replaced.
- Shutdown window — weekend, night or short-window work costs more than open access.
- Access — rooftop siting, restricted plant rooms, permit-to-work and any lifting requirements.
- Number of towers — multiple towers on one site done in one mobilisation cost less per tower.
What we do not do
Being clear about the edges of our scope saves everyone time:
- We do not provide chemical water-treatment programmes, dosing regimes or water-chemistry certification.
- We do not carry out Legionella risk assessment, sampling or the associated certification. That is separately accredited specialist work.
- We do not issue thermal performance certification or capacity re-rating.
- We do not do cooling tower structural design or specialist engineering sign-off.
If your site needs any of the above, use a specialist provider for it. Physical cleaning and good water chemistry work together and neither one substitutes for the other — a tower with an untreated water supply will foul again quickly no matter how well it is cleaned.

Cooling tower cleaning FAQs
How often should a cooling tower be cleaned?
It depends on your water quality, run hours and how much airborne dirt the tower draws in, so the honest answer is that it is set by condition rather than by the calendar. As a working pattern, most commercial towers in the Klang Valley get a visual inspection monthly, a basin clean quarterly, and a full strip-down clean once or twice a year. If your approach temperature is drifting up, or the basin is visibly silted, the tower is telling you it is due regardless of when it was last done.
What is the difference between cooling tower cleaning and cooling tower maintenance?
Cleaning is the physical removal of what has built up: sludge and silt in the basin, scale on the fill pack and internal surfaces, biofilm, and debris in the strainers and distribution system. Maintenance is the wider programme that also covers mechanical work - fan and motor service, drive belts and bearings, drift eliminators, float valves and structural checks. Do you clean the fill pack or replace it?
Whichever the condition justifies, and that is only known once the tower is opened. Fill pack that is fouled but structurally sound is cleaned in place or removed, cleaned and refitted. Fill pack that has collapsed, gone brittle, or scaled so heavily that the flutes are bridged is not worth cleaning and is quoted for replacement. How much does cooling tower cleaning cost in Malaysia?
It is always site-quoted after an inspection, and we will not publish a figure that pretends otherwise. The scope depends on tower size and type, how much sludge and scale has built up, whether the fill pack can be cleaned or has to be replaced, how much shutdown time is available, and access - a rooftop tower with a permit-to-work requirement is a different job from one at ground level. How long does the tower have to be shut down?
A basin clean and strainer clear can often be done in a short planned window. A full strip-down with fill-pack removal typically needs a weekend or a scheduled shutdown, because the tower must be drained, isolated and locked off before anyone works inside it. We plan the sequence around your production or building operating hours and agree the window in writing before the date.
Do you handle water treatment and Legionella control?
No, and we will not claim otherwise. Chemical water-treatment programmes, Legionella risk assessment and the associated sampling and certification are specialist, separately-accredited work. What we do is the physical cleaning, the mechanical condition work and the reporting. If your site needs a treatment regime or a Legionella risk assessment, bring in a specialist water-treatment provider - good cleaning and good water chemistry work together, and neither substitutes for the other.
