Gas top-up pricing is where aircond owners in Malaysia get burned most often, because the industry has no standard way of charging. This page publishes our actual prices, explains what a proper top-up includes, and shows you the red flags in how top-ups are commonly sold.

What a proper top-up includes
- Pressure test first. Gauges on the service port establish what the system actually holds. No gauges, no diagnosis — it is guesswork.
- Leak search. Refrigerant does not get used up, so a low reading means a leak. We check joints, valves and coils before recommending anything. The evidence is usually visible — see the 6 gas leak signs.
- Fix, or an honest conversation. A leaking flare nut is resealed on the spot. A corroded coil gets a straight answer about whether the unit is worth it.
- Vacuum when the system has been opened or run empty. Air and moisture in the lines wreck performance and corrode the system from inside; pulling a vacuum removes them. A system that merely needs topping up does not need this step.
- Charge and verify. Gas in, then supply and return air temperatures checked so you see the unit actually cooling before we leave.
How top-ups are commonly sold — and the red flags
A widespread market practice is per-PSI billing: a low headline rate multiplied by however many PSI the technician says your system needed. The problem is that you cannot verify the number, the total is open-ended, and the structure rewards finding your system “very low.” A fixed per-unit price agreed before the work removes that incentive entirely.
- No pressure test before quoting — a number invented without gauges is not a diagnosis.
- No interest in where the gas went — a top-up that ignores the leak sells you the same job again in months.
- Price that grows on site — a proper quote is confirmed before the cylinder is connected, not after.
- Wrong gas, no label check — R32 and R410A are not interchangeable; a technician who does not read the nameplate is a risk to the compressor.
When a top-up is the wrong purchase
If the unit is pre-2012 and runs R22, if the coil is corroded through, or if this is the third top-up in two years, the honest advice is usually to stop spending on gas. Will you top up my gas without a leak test?
No. Refrigerant does not get consumed, so a low system has a leak, and gas poured into a leaking system is wasted money. The test is free, takes minutes, and means the top-up you pay for actually lasts.
